Great to Outstanding: School Climate

There is no doubt that our District is great. This is indicated by ever-increasing student achievement, awards for academic, fine arts and sports programs, and a culture of collaboration.
To become outstanding in everything that we do requires a relevant vision, goals, and objectives for moving forward. You might know that each building develops an overall action plan that includes, a) developing a positive school climate, b) student achievement, and c) teacher collaboration and student interventions.
A positive school climate, good working relationships, and a structured environment have been shown to be a predicate to high student achievement.
At this time, I would like to highlight how the District is improving school climate in every school. We have a large-scale Anti-Bullying Action Plan (which includes outreach to all stakeholders), trainings and ensuring the safety of all students.
You will see the poster below in every classroom and hallway in the District. Students, staff and parents need to know how to help prevent and handle incidents of bullying. The poster is symbolic of the greater effort to ensure that our efforts will not stop until all incidents of bullying cease.

What is bullying?
- Bullying is intentional, mean behavior that is unwanted and usually repeated
- Being bullied may make one feel threatened, intimidated, excluded or defenseless
- Bullying may happen in different ways: verbal, physical, written, non-verbal or electronic
If I see bullying, I can:
- Tell a trusted adult
- Help the person being bullied get to a safe place
- Stick up for the person being bullied

Proposed Minor Modification to BASH Schedule
Click here to find a presentation that was presented to the School Board on 1/10/12 by Mr. Cooper, Principal. Proposed is fairly typical 6 day cycle, with extended periods on two of those days. The reason for this change is to allow for additional instruction and intervention opportunities to further student achievement. There would be no reduction in electives, activities, etc. as a result of this schedule change.
