Colebrookdale Elementary

Michael Stoudt, Principal email: mstoudt@boyertownasd.org

Colebrookdale Elementary School is one of seven elementary schools in the Boyertown Area School District. The school is located next to the Education Center on Montgomery Avenue. Enrollment is approximately 370 students. For the 2011-12 school year there are two classes at every grade level, kindergarten through sixth. We are privileged to have the entire school district’s Life Skills population as part of our student body. In addition, Colebrookdale is home to the primary gifted class (PEP), with these students being bussed here once a week for special instruction.
The school is an excellent, efficient, and effective educational facility. Our staff puts an emphasis on instruction, with our goal being to have every student meet or exceed his or her potential. We focus on the new three R’s of Education. Building Relationships, Establishing Relevance, and Sustaining Rigor. The fourth R would be Recognizing Accomplishments. Students will continue to receive instruction in all major subjects as well as special area subjects that include art, music, physical education and library. At designated grade levels, students may also select chorus and instrumental lessons if they so desire. Students at Colebrookdale Elementary have the benefit of an art room, music room and library as well as a computer lab that is located adjacent to the library.
We are fortunate to have an excellent teaching and paraprofessional staff at Colebrookdale Elementary School. These dedicated adults do their best to provide an enriching educational experience for all of our students. In addition, we have two and a half learning support teachers, a speech clinician, an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, a reading specialist and a guidance counselor. This year, every grade level will be practicing Response to Intervention and Instruction. This RTII model will provide 40 minutes daily of remedial/enrichment support services facilitated by various educational staff members. More over, when continued remediation is necessary, supports are provided during or after school, depending on the grade level, by various members of our educational staff. All of these extra supports will help to support ALL of our students to achieve their fullest potential.
Our school theme continues to be “We Are Expected”. While we have enjoyed success in the past, both academically and socially, there are always ways to improve. This initiative is based upon Michelle Garcia Winner and her “Expected and Unexpected” program. This “Expected” emphasis will help to teach our students to intrinsically want to be successful both academically and socially. The students will be introduced to our new “Superflex” mascot. Every child will want to strive to be a “Superflex”. We feel that helping children become well rounded people who are well educated and care about others is a paramount goal. As a result of our efforts, it is our hope that our community as a whole will grow and prosper.

I can’t thank ALL of you enough for the AWESOME support the students, family, and faculty provided over our Read Across America Week. The Students were challenged to read 75,000 pages in the month of February. Not only did the students read 75,000 pages, they exceeded the challenge by reading 117,330 pages. The CES staff also added almost 5,000 more pages during this time. I am sooooooo excited to be a part of such a dedicated community. Below you will see the reward the students and staff achieved. YES, I “Stuck” to my end of the deal!

Another initiative which helps us generate community involvement is our participation in the “No Place For Hate” program. Getting along with others and accepting people’s differences is stressed throughout the year and highlighted by special activities. We are proud to be able to say that we have been certified as a “No Place For Hate” school for the past five years.
Parents are a vital part of any school community. Colebrookdale Elementary School is very fortunate to have a very active Home and School Association (H.S.A.). CES will continue the many student activities sponsored during the school year thanks to the efforts of the H.S.A. These activities include the following: holiday homeroom activities, a skating party, a Fun Fair, our sixth grade awards recognition program and many individual classroom projects. All of these activities will help to enhance the educational process for the students as well as provide a more stimulating educational environment for all.
It is our goal at Colebrookdale to pass along a love of learning to all of our students. This is fostered by our efforts to provide a safe and positive educational environment throughout the year. Parental support and collaboration in meeting this goal is paramount. By working together, we can achieve awesome things for all of our students in our ever-changing world.
