COMMITTEES

Parents are a vital part of any school community. Parents are encouraged to become involved and participate in the numerous activities that occur throughout the year. We promise that the time you give the HSA and school will be worth your while and fun!!! Following are areas in which volunteers are needed.

**These events require you to be a GES HSA member -- This is only a one-time fee of
$5 annually per family.**

Welcome Back Luncheon (August)

This is an informal way to welcome back the teachers and staff and start the school year off on a positive note. This luncheon serves as reminder of the special relationship the HSA enjoys with the teachers and other support staff.

Yearbook Committee (August – January)

A group of parents who work together to compile a keepsake book of class pictures, class activities, school activities, school activities and staff pictures. If you like taking photos, we need you!

KidStuff Entertainment Books (September)

Each child receives one book to sell to a friend or family member. These books contain many valuable coupons to local businesses and surrounding areas. You may choose to sell the book, purchase it yourself, or return if necessary. The money you spend to buy the book can easily be made back with the use of the valuable coupons inside. GES makes 50% profit on each book purchased with this fundraiser. Additional books are available upon request.

Picture Day (September)

Volunteers are needed to help LifeTouch on picture day. This includes helping to keep the children organized.

COCA Directory (September)

A family directory provided free-of-charge by Council on Chemical Abuse. Published to promote drug and alcohol free environments for our children. In order to included in this directory, you must sign a permission form that will be sent home with your child in the beginning of the school year. A great way for parents to meet other parents who believe in the safety of their children!

Family Fall Festival **

Bring your favorite covered dish and share with others! This is an opportunity for staff and families to socialize at an informal relaxing buffet style dinner. Themes are chosen.  HSA membership is required to attend this event. Come and meet your children’s friends.

Staff Dessert Day (Once a Month)

The HSA sponsors a “Staff Dessert Day” once a month as a treat for our wonderful teachers & staff. If you like to bake or make delicious desserts, we could truly use your help!

Roller Skating Parties (September and January)

Two skating parties are scheduled during the year. They will be held at Pheasantland Skating Rink. This is a social event for the family and friends of GES students, provided at a minimal cost per person.

Officer of the HSA (Ongoing)

If you are organized and would like to run for an executive committee position for your HSA, nominations are accepted in the spring and voted on at an HSA meeting. If you are organized and motivated, we need you!

Box Tops for Education (Ongoing)

Collecting BoxTops can mean big bucks! You will find boxtops on General Mills and other products you purchase in the grocery store. Each boxtop has a value equivalent to 10 cents. If each student collects 10 per month, GES would receive approximately $700! You can also collect them from neighbors, co-workers and friends. Just send them into school with your child in an envelope marked “Boxtops.” Contests are also held throughout the year.

Book Fair (Ongoing)

Help is always needed at Book Fair time. This includes assisting the librarian by organizing and setting up of books prior to the sale, as well as assisting children the day of the book fair.

Campbells Soup Labels (Ongoing)

Collect Campbell’s soup labels and earn great prizes for GES. Just cut off the UPC code and send it in to school with your child.

Grant Writing (Ongoing)

GES HSA has received grants from places such as Walmart. If you like to write and research, this would be a great way to explore opportunities for GES to obtain monies from outside sources.

Health Screenings (Ongoing)

Volunteers are needed to assist our nurses and outside professionals test for hearing, eyesight and weight screenings.

Hospitality Committee (Ongoing)

Helping to provide baked goods and foods along with set up for special events such as HSA meetings, School Board meetings hosted by GES, parent workshops and any other event that may occur during the year when refreshments are needed. If you have a knack for entertaining, we need you!

Homeroom Parent (Ongoing)

Being a Homeroom Parent is a great way to help out our wonderful GES teachers! This important role not only helps parents get to know their child’s teacher better, but also helps contribute in a meaningful way to each child’s classroom experience. It is also a good way to get to know other parents, whether they are in your child’s classroom or whether they are other homeroom parents with whom you exchange ideas or collaborate. Paperwork will be sent home at the beginning of the school year and is due back by Sept. 14th. Security clearances are needed for these positions. HSA members will be considered first.

HSA Newsletter (Ongoing)

The HSA publishes a monthly newsletter to keep parents and staff informed of activities and important information. If you like to type and collect information, this is a job for you.

Market Day (Ongoing)

An opportunity to purchase delicious frozen food items once a month and have our school benefit from a percentage of the proceeds. Brochures will be sent home monthly. The profits from this major fundraiser benefit GES. Many volunteers are needed once a month on Monday evenings to help sort products for pick up.

School Marque

If you would like to help maintain the school’s marque located outside of the school on Congo Road, please let us know.

Outdoor Learning Centers (Ongoing)

This includes the GES nature trail, fish pond, Donator’s Den and Insect Garden. A group of parents who will work together to plan, preserve and maintain the Outdoor Classrooms at GES. If you like to work outdoors and dig in the dirt, this job is for you!

Preschool Story Hour (Ongoing)

A program for preschool children to hear a story and participate in a craft. This is a great opportunity for a child who will be attending kindergarten the following year. We are always looking for people who would like to help organize the crafts.

Redner’s Save-a-Tape (Ongoing)

Pick up a save-a-tape card from your local Redner’s courtesy desk. Present it when you check out. You will get a save-a-tape receipt, send it into school. The school receives a check for 1% of the value of all receipts turned in. Easy Money!

Target Card for Education (Ongoing)

Obtain a credit card from Target and earn money for GES! A great idea now that Target stores are located in Limerick and Pottstown.

TGI Friday’s Family Dine-Out

An opportunity for you and your friends and family to dine out at TGI Fridays and earn money for GES. A percentage of your dinner will be donated back to our school. A great excuse for not cooking!

Monkey Joe’s Family Fun (November & January)

A family event on a day off of school in which your admission and food purchases will help GES raise money while your children hang out with their friends. This is a great opportunity for parents to interact and get to know their children’s friends!

Family Movie Night (November & February)

Two free movie nights are held per year for families of GES. We rent a “family appropriate” film to present on a Friday night. Free popcorn is provided. Come in your pajamas, and bring your drinks, chairs and blankets. Keep in mind that parents need to accompany their children.

Christmas Craft Night (December)**

Families of the GES HSA are invited to come together to make holiday crafts and enjoy refreshments. Age appropriate crafts are supplied free-of-charge to the children to make. HSA membership is required to attend this event.

Little Shoppers Shoppe (December)

This is a week-long opportunity for the children to shop for mom and dad as well as other family members in a “store” environment, choosing from many low cost but quality items. This is held in early December and is strictly on a volunteer basis. Many, many volunteers are needed during this week to help assist children with their purchases.

Community Reader Day (January)

A day when professionals from our community are invited to read to the children in the classrooms to help raise awareness of how important reading is, not only in school, but throughout our lives. Readers with interesting careers are always needed.

Author Day (February)

The HSA membership, with the help of the school’s reading specialist and librarian, selects an author to come to our school to make a presentation to the children. The children are usually given the opportunity to purchase autographed books from the author. Volunteers are needed to help sort books or host dinner for the author.

Bowling Event (February)

This is a GES HSA-sponsored bowling outing held at Limerick Bowling Center. Families are invited to join fellow students and their families for an afternoon of fun and getting to know each other. Purchased tickets allow you to bowl two games, shoe rental, and refreshments.

Ice Cream Social & Bingo (March)

Another evening for families to come together and enjoy the company of other GES families and have an ice cream sundae to top it off! This is also a bingo night in which children can win great prizes and socialize with friends!

Spring Basket Party (March)

This is our biggest fundraiser of the year!. It is a theme-based party where “baskets” are donated by local businesses and GES families. You can help this event by donating a theme basket and/or attending the party. Plan to attend this awesome night out with family and friends and coordinate snacks to share with your table. It is a night of fun, excitement and lots of great prizes! (Over 150 door prizes and baskets!) The event is attended by approximately 500 people. Because of this and our other fundraisers, we do not ask our children to participate in door-to-door sales in order to keep them safe.

Yard Sale Extravaganza (Spring Break)

You are probably thinking “Yuck, a yard sale, they are so much trouble.” Yes, they can be if you throw a bunch of stuff in boxes and wait for people to dig through them. However, if you’ve not been to this yard sale, you are in for a treat! Our yard sale is successful because we treat it as a business and the people who shop are our customers. We create a very organized, indoor, store-like environment with music and refreshments. Parents are asked to save their gently-used items and donate them to the yard sale. Left over items are donated to needy organizations within our community. You won’t want to miss this event!

Art Show (Spring)

The GES Art Show is held in the spring for all families to attend. Volunteers are needed the weeks prior to the Art Show to help the art teacher hang pictures and organize items around the school. Times are flexible and this can be done during the day.

Grandparents Day (April)

A day when all grandparents or grandfriends of GES students are invited to visit their grandchildren at school for a few hours to share in their day. A favorite event! Many volunteers are needed on this day to help greet, direct, serve food, etc. A very special day for all involved!

Scholarship Committee (April)

A $700 award is given to a graduating senior at Boyertown High School who has attended GES.

Nominating Committee (May)

This is the group that accepts nominations for HSA Officer positions. These people will contact those nominated and work with the slate of officers.

Staff Appreciation Week (May)

Held during National Teacher Appreciation Week. A week long “thank you” for the GES staff. This includes a continental breakfast one day, a buffet luncheon on another day, and a few other goodies throughout the week. Staff members can drop in at various free times during their day to enjoy the donated treats. This is our way of showing our appreciation for what the staff does to make our children’s educational experience a memorable one. Volunteers are always needed to donate food items or help with this event.

Fun Fair Carnival (June)

An awesome day of games, fun, snacks and prizes for the students in a carnival like atmosphere. Many parents plan a day off from work just for this event which is held rain or shine. Many volunteers are needed to help make this day a success! Parents, grandparents and aunts & uncles are invited to help.

Sixth Grade Activities (November/May/June)

DARE graduation (November & May – depending on the course schedule) and end of the year sixth grade awards ceremony (June).
