Welcome to G.E.S Library, a place where students can take a journey to the ancient pyramids in Egypt, travel through time to the pilgrims, or explore outer space just by turning the pages in a book. I hope everyone will find something exciting to read on the shelves.
If you can't find something exciting to read, stop by and we will look together or let me know what we need to add to the library.
Happy Reading!
Our library currently holds over 20,000 volumes. The fiction materials are divided by reading level into Easy and Fiction sections. We have an extensive nonfiction collection which supports the curriculum and provides students with a wide range of topics to read about. We currently have subscriptions for about 15 children's magazine favorites such as, Dog Fancy, Cat Fancy, Boy's Life, Horse and Rider, Sports Illustrated for Kids and several others. We also receive the Boyertown Times newspaper and the Reading Eagle newspaper.
Philosophy / Goals:
- to promote students' interest and abilities in reading, listening and viewing
- to foster the full range of information concepts and abilities students must master to profit from the global resources that are now at their fingertips
- to develop the full range of abilities that students need to interact effectively with information and to construct meaningful knowledge from that information
(from Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning which was prepared by the American Association of School Librarians. ALA : Chicago , 1998.)
