During the school calendar the library is open daily 7:30-3:30.
Summer hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9-12 and 1-3.

Library Book Search
Circulation Procedures
Books: All books from the general collection may be checked out for a two-week loan period.
The date on the date due slip is the date by which the book should be returned. Students
returning books late will be fined 10 cents per day for each overdue book, excluding weekends
and school holidays. Books may be renewed provided there is not a demand for that particular
title or subject matter. Students with overdue books or outstanding fines must clear
their record before borrowing additional materials.
Reference Books: Books from the reference collection may be checked out
overnight and returned before first period the day they are due.
Students returning overdue reference books will be fined
25 cents per day for each overdue book.
Periodicals: Current issues of magazines are on display
in the pit in the library and are non-circulating. Older
issues of magazines may be borrowed for a two week period
and are subject to the same overdue fines as books.
Students may reserve books if they are checked out. When the library does not own the
materials you need, every effort will be made to obtain them through district interlibrary
loan and ACCESS PA.
A coin operated photocopier is available for your use.
There is a charge of 10 cents per page for this service.
Please make an effort to return materials on time.
Other students may be looking for them, too.

General Location of Materials
Nonfiction books are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal System of
Classification and are located on the shelves along the walls of the library.
Fiction books are shelved alphabetically by author's last name on
the low shelves opposite the entrance to the library.
Biography books and the short story collection are located on the
shelves around the pit.
Reference books are located in the classroom area of the library.
New titles are displayed on the new book display rack.

Library Access
Passes are required when you visit the library from a
class or study hall. Students wishing to come to the
library during a study hall must obtain a pass from
the librarian before the period they want to come.
Study hall teachers will not issue passes to the library.
Students may request one pass a day.
When you need a library pass, follow this procedure:
1. Sign your name on the sign-up form in the library and write your name and
study hall location on the pass.
2. Report to the library at the beginning of the period and put your pass in the box.
3. Students must remain in the library the entire period. Please have work for the
entire period.

Library Computers
The library has microcomputers for student use.
Programs such as the OPAC, Student Resource Center,
Grolier Online, Power Library, World Book Online
Reference Center, and the Internet* are available
for student use. Computer games are not allowed
in the library. Students must check with the librarian
before accessing the Internet. The school district
guidelines for computer usage and accessing
the Internet will be enforced.
*Internet use-agreement must be on file.
Student Resource Center
If you are a student at Junior High East, you can click here to link to Student Resource Center.
This will connect you with an online database that will search for articles in
magazines, newspapers, radio/televisions transcripts, and reference books.
You will need to obtain a password from Mrs. Whitefield, the librarian,
to use Student Resource Center.
