Talent Show
We recently had our annual student talent show. Our students did a great job! We had twenty different acts which included singers, dancers and other more, unique talents. It was great to see so many people out to support our students. Proceeds from the talent show benefit our dance marathon.
Dance Marathon
Students recently received information during the flex period concerning the dance marathon. This is great event which we are very proud of. Last year West raised over $24,000 for the Boyertown Relay for Life. We have raised over $70,000 over the past four years. We will have registration information in next week’s Week in Review.
Dance Marathon II
We are pleased to announce that donations to our dance marathon can now be made online. All proceeds from the dance marathon goes to the Boyertown Relay For Life. There is now a dance marathon page on their website. This morning, students learned how to make donations towards the dance marathon on our website. Attached is the electronic version of those directions. It is extremely important that a donor follow these directions so that the donation can be linked to a particular student. Please email Mr. Rohn at brohn@boyertownasd.org if you have any questions.
East-West Spelling Bee
On Wednesday, January 25th, Junior High West hosted the annual East-West Spelling Bee. All of the students did their best and were respectful of one another. The top two spellers this year were from East. Congratulations to them and all of the contestants! It takes a lot of nerve to get up in front of an audience of your peers and spell. The top two students now advance to the Berks County bee held at the Reading Area Community College’s Miller Center for the Arts at 7:00 PM on Monday, March 12, 2012. The public is invited to attend.
Can Tab Project Update
The district has passed 4 million in our can tab collection. Our current estimate is 4,066,154. Hopefully we can pass 5 million by next year’s Unity Walk which is scheduled for October 14, 2012. Please keep in mind that the tabs do not need to be just from beverage cans. They can also be from cat food cans, etc. Thanks for your help with this project.
Activity Fee Payments Overdue
Students who are overdue in making activity fee payments have been notified this week. A letter with payment information and the payment form have been mailed home also. Unfortunately, the phone number listed on the letter is incorrect. Any questions should be directed to Mr. Matt Morton, BASH Athletic Director, at (610) 369-7452.
Box Tops for Education
West received a check this week from Box Tops for $170. This was based on the efforts of students and community members to collect and sort box tops and ship them to General Mills last school year. It was a big job to collect, sort, trim, and ship the Box Tops, but students in Teens Who Care worked hard to get it done by the deadline, and in return earned money for the school! We are planning to spend the money to fund additions to our classroom library. Thanks to all who helped last year, and please continue to save and send your Box Tops, Campbell’s soup can labels, and can tabs to West so we can have success with this program again this year!
Funding of Competitions for the 2011-2012 School Year
This notice is to inform all coaches, advisors, students, and parents/guardians of new procedures begun this year pertaining to the reimbursement of travel expenses for all academic, athletic, co-curricular and extra-curricular competitions. Competitions include any type of tournament, including District, State and National playoffs. The Boyertown Area School District has in the past and will continue to pay the registration fees for teams, as well as individuals, in which Boyertown students/athletes are scheduled to compete. Events included can be pre-season, in-season and post-season competitions. In addition, the Boyertown Area School District will cover the cost of the transportation to the scheduled events. The cost of transportation will be covered by District-provided transportation in which all coaches, students/athletes and support staff are included. Food and lodging for the students/athletes will not be paid for by the Boyertown Area School District. These costs are the responsibility of the parent/guardian or through any other means available to the competitor. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Matt Morton, BASH Athletic Director, at (610) 369-7452 or email him at mmorton@boyertownasd.org.

Morning Drop-off

Help Needed
Teens Who Care is again collecting box tops, Campbell’s soup can labels, and can tabs. The box tops and soup labels are used to earn money to buy items for the school, and the can tabs are given to the Ronald McDonald House to fund projects for those in need. Please contribute to this worthy cause if you are able!
No Place For Hate Can Tab Collection
One of the big NPFH projects for our school district again this year is the collection of 6 million can tabs. Why six million? That is the number of Jewish people killed during the Holocaust. We are well over a million tabs already! Keep saving the tabs and turning them into the schools. I think this is going to be a great thing for the district and the Ronald McDonald House who will eventually get the tabs.
A Note from Transportation
In order to keep our buses on schedule, transportation is requesting that students arrive at their bus stop five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. We appreciate your help with this matter.
Classroom Libraries
We now have a total of 830 donated books in our classroom libraries thanks to many generous donations. We have many others that we have purchased through book fair proceeds. Please keep us in mind if you do any home library clean-up.
Grade Point Average Calculator
A Grade Point Average Calculator is now available on the Academics Page. Follow the link on the menu for the Academics Page on the left hand side of this page.
BASD Information Line
The Boyertown Area School District has a new information phone line available. Parents and students can call this line any time for specific information relating to weather, schedules, etc. The recordings will be directed to the students and their families.
