Black History: Advanced 9th Grade 2-D Art

Students were to select a famous inspirational African American person and to draw them, and then use the colored medium of their choice. Students also had to write about their person explaining who their person was, what they did that was significant, why they chose them, and then describe the creative process they went through to create their project.

Still Life: Advanced 9th Grade 2-D Art

Students divided up into groups and each brought in two items from home to draw. The merits of the items were discussed, and six selected. Using sighting, students drew the composition and transferred it to charcoal paper. With the lights off and a lamp shining on the one side of the project for dramatic shadows they charcoaled the values they saw.

Silhouette Sampler

Seventh grade students created 9 patterns to be used in this project. Their heads were traced by the teacher, and they divided the interior space into sections. Their patterns were drawn in the spaces they made, to create variety and balance. Color theory and color combinations were discussed, and students were free to choose whatever 3 or 4 colors they liked best together. This created the unity and harmony of the piece. The results are beautiful, and they are currently hanging on display outside the 30’s and the art hallways.
