Basket Bingo

This year's Basket Bingo was a great success! We raised over $4,500! With these funds the PTCA has already purchased trees for the school yard, headsets and mousepads for the computer lab, magazine subscriptions for the Kindergarten classrooms and has paid for Mr. Butt's annual "Good Behavior" Ice Cream Party. We're not done spending yet - stay tuned for more purchases!

Book Distribution / RHYME

What better way to promote reading then to have the PTCA purchase books and allow students to select, read and keep a book for future enjoyment?  This committee, working closely with Mrs. Merkley, our Reading Specialist, does just that! This takes place twice a year.  The distributions are centered around a theme and provide a fun experience for everyone.

Committee Chair:  Joanne Schatz, 610-970-7464 and Michelle Weller, 610-754-8667

Book Swap

Volunteers help set up and maintain a book swap for previously distributed RHYME and other books which are in good condition.  The books are donated by families and the swap is open to students once a month.  Volunteers are needed to help students swap their books once a month, during their lunch/recess period.

Committee Chair: Kim Biletta, 610-323-4845

Bowling

This year's Family Bowling Day will be held at Limerick Bowl on Saturday, November 14, from 3-5 PM. Please return the RSVP form (link below) along with $10 per person by Friday, October 30.

Collecting Cartriges and Cell Phones

The PTCA Playground Committee is asking you to save empty laser and ink jet cartridges & old cell phones.  We recycle them and receive money for new playground equipment.

There are collection boxes in the lobby all year.  Laser and ink jet cartridges are found in printers, fax machines and desktop copiers.  Almost all cell phones are recyclable.  Your place of employment can also support us by donating used cartridges and old cell phones.  Please remove batteries and charging equipment before sending them to school.

If your place of employment would take a collection box for us, please call Angel Elise Watts, 610-970-6424 to make arrangements.

Thank you for helping teach our children that recycling makes dollars and sense, especially for our playground!

How to Cut It!

These three key collections programs involve the collection of General Mills Boxtops, Campbell's Soup Labels for Education and Redner's Sav-A-Tape receipts.  In addition to collecting and sending in these items, we need your help to trim and count the coupons and labels that come in.  Volunteers can either have the coupons and labels sent to their home with their child to work on at their convenience, or they can be part of a group that gets together from time to time in the evenings to trim and count together.

You can visit www.boxtops4education.com to learn about more ways to help NHUF earn money, monitor our earnings, or to receive recipes and other ideas for using Boxtops products.

From now until December 1, any new visitors who register with the Box Tops Web site will earn NHUF 5 EXTRA BOXTOPS!!! (that's 50 CENTS!!!). Visit and register now so that you never miss another opportunity to win more $$$$ for our school!

Committee Chair: Wendy Goggin, 610-970-8969  -Barbara Ferri, 610-705-0359

Election Committee

This committee will be formed every January.  The PTCA President will appoint one of the volunteers to chair this committee.  The volunteers will then handle the annual officer elections according to the established bylaws.  Duties will include handling nominations, ballots, absentee ballots and being present at the meeting to run the elections.  If you are interested in serving, you can not be a current officer or executive board member or planning to run for any of these positions in the same year.

Fundraising

THE BACKBONE OF OUR PTCA'S FINANCIAL STABILITY! Our fundraiser usually kicks off in the beginning of the school year and runs for a two (2) week period.  Students are rewarded in various ways for their selling efforts.  We DO NOT encourage door-to-door selling.  Both large and small efforts are appreciated.  Committee volunteers help with tallying the orders, counting the money and distributing the merchandise when it comes in.  Most of the work on this committee takes place in September and October. This year's fundraiser ends on Wednesday, September 23. Pick-up will be October 21 & 22 - a memo will be sent home with details.

Committee Chair:  Diane Little, 215-234-8864

Holiday Shop

Students love Christmas/holiday shopping for family members in our annual Holiday Shop!  Our store is set up by volunteers.  Volunteer "elves" help run the store, which is open for a two (2) week period.  Volunteers also assist with starting and ending inventories.  It is a lot of work in a short period of time, in late November / early December, but the students love it!

Committee Chair: Maryanne Boone, 610-705-0880 and Jennifer Riddell, 610-327-9833

Hospitality

Our PTCA is proud of the many functions we hold and assist with here at NHUF. We start off by treating our teachers and staff to the annual "kick off" school luncheon in August. We provide refreshments at our PTCA meetings, annual NH-UF School Board meeting and DARE Graduation, to name just a few. We also provide our students with holiday treats; oranges for the winter holiday season and Cadbury eggs to celebrate the coming of spring. To show our great appreciation for our teachers and staff of NH-UF we host an appreciation breakfast in May. Our committee is responsible for all of the "goodies" we enjoy at these and many other functions throughout the school year. Without the generous volunteers each year the hospitality committee would not be able to support these functions.

Committee Chair: Becky Puleo, 610-323-1043

 Market Day

Market Day is a monthly food program which offers a variety of meats, vegetables, drinks and desserts, all designed to meet your busy family's needs.  This is a year long fundraiser with the Upper Frederick Fire Company.  Your orders are collected through school or placed online.  Pick-up is held at NHUF once a month.  The profits are divided between the PTCA and the Fire Company.  Our portion of the proceeds are split between the Library and Playground.

You can place your Market Day order online!  Click here to visit www.marketday.com and place your order.

Committee Chair: Michele Hanson, 215-234-0506

Membership

Membership in the PTCA has its advantages!  You not only receive all the important information regarding the organization throughout the school year, you are also entitled to vote at our annual election.  Our committee conducts an annual membership drive at the beginning of the school year.  The cost of membership is a voluntary donation to the PTCA.  This committee is most active at the start of the school year.

Committee Chair: Michelle Hanson, 215-234-0506

Movie Night

Watch for details in the school newsletter!

Committee Chair: Maryanne Boone, 610-705-0880 and Jennifer Riddell, 610-327-9833

Parents as Reading Partners

A great way to promote reading is to read with your child!  Our PARP/BOOK IT program encourages at home reading with a parent or family member.  When you read with your child for at least 15 minutes a day for 20 days a month, we reward students with a Pizza Hut coupon for a free personal pan pizza.  This unique program runs from October to March.  Classes who meet the participation requirement are rewarded with a popcorn party towards the end of the school year.  Help is needed to check the calendars and to fill out the coupons each month.

Committee Chair: Diane Little, 215-234-8864

Playground

Our playground areas are in need of constant upgrading and the occasional replacement of equipment.  This committee reviews the situation throughout the year and makes recommendations for impovements, as funds are available and needed.

Committee Chair: Elise Watts, 610-970-6424

Preschool Story Time

Parent volunteers come together once a week from late October through April in the school's library to read a story and do an easy craft with youngsters who will be entering our kindergarten classes in the fall. In the event of e delayed school opening, Preschool Story Time will be cancelled

Preschool Storytime meets every Thursday from 9:50 to 10:45am in the NHUF library.

Committee Chair: Shannon Burghardt, 610-718-0073

Publishing Center

A book that you and your child will cherish forever!  This committee, along with your child's teacher, assists students writing and illustrating their own books.  These books are hard bound.  Help is needed typing the children's text, proofreading and assembling the books.  While this committee works year round, most activity takes place from late fall until early spring.

Committee Chair: Tracey Bilanin, 484-995-0979

Scholarship

Each year the committee selects a graduating senior who attended NHUF to receive a $750 scholarship.  Seniors submit their application, they are then reviewed and a winner selected.  The scholarship is presented at Awards Night at the Senior High School.

Committee Chair: Nicole Benner, 215-234-8581

Seed Project

Children love to plant a seed and watch it grow.  Our Seed Project committee gives our first, second and third grade students a chance to do just that!  We distribute seeds before the close of school.  Students grow the seeds during the summer and are asked to bring in their prize-winning marigolds, pumpkins and sunflowers for judging in September.    Click HERE for pictures from 2009

Committee Chair: Donna Dennis and Tanya Mazzanti, 215-234-6826

Sunshine Committee

Spreading cheer is what the Sunshine Committee is all about!  We provide anyone in our NHUF family - staff, students or families - with appreciation, congratulations, encouragement and support through cards, flowers, etc.  Contact the chairperson of the Sunshine Committee for details on how you can have a card sent to someone in need.

Committee Chair: Dianna Schell 610-323-5072

Tab Collection

The PTCA has a collection container for the tabs from aluminum beverage cans in the hallway outside of the nurse's office. The tabs are being collected by Junior High West and given to the McDonalds in Gilbertsville.

Committee Chair: Amy Eckenrode, 610-754-8508

Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteering is a great way to interact with other parents and students at the school. This position reecruits parents/grandparents as volunteers for various school activities throughout the school year, such as Picture Day, Parent Visitation, Harvest Day Parade and Grandparents' Day. Volunteers are needed for a few hours in the morning or afternoon of each activity day to help direct visitors to an activity or to sign visitors into the school building.

Committee Chair: Alison Neeld, 610-754-8004

Yearbook Committee

Students love taking home a yearbook at the end of the school year to remember the great times they shared with their friends and teachers.  Our committee puts together this memorable book with the many pictures submitted by parents and students.  This committee generally meets twice a year.  Help in taking and sending pictures is appreciated year-round.

Photos in jpeg format for the 2008-2009 yearbook can now be submitted via e-mail! Send your pictures to NHUFYearbook@yahoo.com
