The New Hanover Upper Frederick Elementary School is a learning community staffed by a talented and caring faculty and supported by an active and involved parent organization. The school is located about seven miles east of Boyertown near the junction of Route 73 and Hoffmansville Road. Despite the relatively large size (over 700 children), the small school atmosphere helps to nurture the academic, emotional and social development of each child. The goal is to enable each child to succeed to his or her full potential.
The core element of our strength as a school is an outstanding faculty and staff. Staff holds high expectations for all students and is committed to helping each child meet these expectations. These efforts have resulted in superior achievement of our students year after year in state and national standardized testing.
Instruction focuses on language arts, math, social studies, and science. Students also participate in art, vocal and instrumental music, wellness and fitness activities, computer and library instruction. Learning support classes provide support along with our reading specialist, guidance counselor, remediation teacher and a student assistance team.
Our physical plant is a great source of pride for the entire school community. The NHUF custodial staff is meticulous in maintaining the school plant which consists of thirty-one classrooms, nine special area rooms, a computer lab, library, gymnasium and all purpose room.
The Parent Teacher Child Association supports many activities including parent meetings, a playground committee, book distributions and book swaps, publishing center, holiday shop, pre-school story time, movie night, parents as reading partners, grandparent’s day, and the yearbook. We encourage all of our parents to become involved in this active organization.
The virtues of hard work, responsibility, honesty, courtesy, and respect are continuously emphasized and integrated into the regular academic school program and reinforced by adults in the school community. Opportunities for student leadership include: safety patrol. AV assistants, school store, peer tutoring, and student council. Students participate in at least one community service project annually. We believe strongly that as an organization it is our responsibility to develop not just good students but good student citizens in a democratic society.
We eagerly look forward to the return of our children and the beginning of what promises to be an excellent school year.
