Mr. Barry Fretz is a long time resident of Boyertown and a graduate of Boyertown Area Senior High School . He graduated from William and Mary College with a bachelor of arts degree in English. Since that time he has earned masters degrees from Temple and Kutztown Universities . Since 1964, Mr. Fretz, has been employed in education at both the private and public school levels, teaching English and Reading . In 1994 he became a guidance counselor at the high school working with the career tech students. His hobby is related to working outdoors, on his property.
Mr. Joseph McGlinchey is the current guidance department chairperson and counselor working with the Class of 2008. He is a graduate of Penn State University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in English. Mr. McGlinchey later earned his masters degree in secondary counseling from Kutztown University and holds an administrative certificate from Temple University . He is currently in his 35th year in education, one year at Mt. Penn high school and three years at Boyertown Junior High West, where he taught English. For the past 29 years he has worked as a guidance counselor at the senior high school. Mr. McGlinchey is an accomplished runner, running several marathons and has served as a winter and spring track coach for over 22 years. His hobbies include running, reading, and fishing.
Christy Meitzler is the newest member of the high school guidance staff and is currently the counselor for the Class of 2010. She is a 1997 graduate of Boyertown Senior High School . In 2001 she earned her bachelors degree in psychology from Kutztown University and in 2004 her masters degree in secondary school counseling from Kutztown University . She is a published researcher and served as a research coordinator and psychology department assistant for Kutztown University prior to her arrival at BASH. She is committed to serving the needs of the Boyertown community and enjoys traveling, reading, writing, and spending time with friends and family.
Mr. David Slider is currently the guidance counselor for the Class of 2009. He is a graduate of Muhlenberg College where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in History and was a member of several championship soccer teams. Mr. Slider earned his masters degree in secondary counseling from Kutztown University in 1977.  He has been employed by the Boyertown Area School District since that time, serving first as a Social Studies teacher in the senior high and part-time counselor until 1994. In 1994 he became a full-time counselor. Currently he is working on his doctorate in Educational Administration at Immaculata University. While working in Boyertown, Mr. Slider, has been an assistant boy's soccer coach for 7 years, and assistant boy's basketball coach for 4 years and the head girl's basketball coach for 13 years. His hobbies revolve around athletics, a new interest in golf, and reading.
 

Guidance Support Staff

Mrs. Wilma Schaeffer is the guidance secretary and she has held that position for the past 26 years. She has been employed by the school district for 30 years, with the first four serving as a secretary in the senior high school library. Mrs. Schaeffer is a long time resident of Oley and is a 1971 graduate of Boyertown Area Senior High School . Her hobbies include crafts and reading.
