• Reading

    We have a balanced reading program that includes shared reading, guided reading, and read alouds. We will use the Reading Street anthology and several novels as the core of our reading program. In small, guided reading groups, students will work with the teacher on achieving individual reading goals such as increased fluency and/or comprehension. During read alouds, the teacher models good reading fluency and interacts with students as they listen to the story.

    In writing, we will explore each mode of writing in depth; narrative, informative,descriptive, poetic and opinion. Students will refine their writing skills by being able to use the "writing burger" format to write a successful paragraph and essay. Students will also identify and incorporate figurative language in their written work.

    At the end of 4th Grade, we'll put your writing skills to the test! Students will venture to the Pacific where Ms. Wightman and the other tribal elders will leave students "stranded" on Grammar Island. Students will need to write their way off of the island. Do you have the WRITE STUFF? Will the tribal elders allow you to return to civilization?
