    Week of 5/23:
     
    Monday:  Today we began with a reading check on chapter 20-22 of The Things they Carried.  We then discussed the text.   

    Tuesday:  Today we worked on gathering information related to The Things They Carried from secondary sources (attached).  The information we noted included:  A critical opinion (with page number) that relates to our research (focus) questions, one extension of the critical opinion, one connection to the novel (with page number).
     
    Wednesday:  Today we collected primary examples from The Things They Carried related to the research (focus questions).  We collected the information on a Google Docs chart.  Here is the link for your class's collection chart:
     
     
    Thursday:  Today we began working on the paper for The Things They Carried.   All secondary source materials are attached (See Week of 4/25: Tuesday and this week: Tuesday).  Attached here you will find:  drafting packet, grading/formatting sheet, the text of the novel (primary), and the work with the secondary sources we completed. Due 5/31 (11:59) This is a revised due date, and it does not match the grading sheet: The Things They Carried paper.

    Wednesday:  Today we began with a reading check on chapter nine, "Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong", of The Things They Carried.  We are taking a bit of break from discussing the novel to prepare for a writing sample using chapters 1-4.  Below you will find the resources that you will need for the next couple of days as we review for the writing sample.     Tuesday:  Today we categorized the things the soldiers carried by purpose.
    Wednesday:  Today we discussed the military terms and acronyms (sheet attached) that we are encountering as we progress through the novel.

    Monday:  Today we discussed evaluating critical opinions in a research paper.  We used Gatsby Source 1 and noted a critical opinion in the shaded block with the bibliography information we completed on Friday. 
    Tuesday:  Today we finished the critical opinions chart.  In addition to the critical opinions that we noted in the gray boxes, we noted a primary text connection to each critical opinion in the white box to the right.  We submitted the charts.
    Wednesday:  Today we worked on paraphrasing (attached).
