Dr. Bergey

Welcome to my page!

I am very excited to get started here at Boyertown and New Hanover-Upper Frederick (NHUF) Elementary School.  This will be my 20th year in education and my first year OUT of the classroom.  I am going to work as a Dean of Social, Emotional, and Academic Learning here at NHUF.  This position is pretty awesome and BRAND NEW!  I will be assisting Mr. Rohn in the office with some administrative tasks.  I will also be working with teachers to make school as AWESOME as possible for kids at NHUF.  In addition, I will be helping Mrs. Curry (guest School Counselor in for Mrs. Ong) to work with students and groups at NHUF.

Another primary focus for me at NHUF is to help support the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) of staff and students.  SEL is a major focus for the entire school district and my role will help students understand the 5 core compentencies for SEL.  Here are they are:

Self-Awareness - This set of skills focuses on the appropriate understanding of one's own emotions and thoughts.  We will also focus on the effects emotions and thoughts have on student behavior.

Self-Management - In school, we will focus on the proper regulation of student emotions and set goals for self-motivation and achievement.

Social Awareness - As responsibile students and humans, we need to be able to empathize with others.  In school we will work to develop all the skills surrounding social interactions.

Relationship Skills - Communication with and understanding between all kinds of people is an important skill for students to develop here in school.  We will look to develop these skills here at NHUF.

Responsibile Decision Making - This compentency is all about being able to identify and solve problems.  We here at NHUF will be providing learning experiences with many opportunities to practice these skills.

School is going to be VERY different this year, especially at the start of the year.  We here at NHUF are excited to take on all the new challenges this year might present.  We are here to support, encourage, and learn with you this year!

LET'S GO!!!!!
