Welcome!
I currently teach Academic English 12 and 12th grade AP Literature and Composition. The 12th grade academic course addresses how literature can be an agent for discussing identity and broader social issues. In addition to reading a variety of short fiction, poetry, novels, and drama, we'll cover non-fiction to focus on rhetorical analysis and crafting a source-based argument.
The AP Literature and Composition course will explore American, British, and World Literature ranging in historical eras and literary traditions. We'll focus on strategies to analyze challenging texts. Many of the pieces in this course are some of my favorites - they are rich and thought-provoking. We'll focus heavily on short fiction, poetry, the novel, and drama. To prepare for the exam, we'll practice various AP prompts and multiple choice passages. Beyond being an academically rigorous course, the texts will provide us with a means to analyze our world.
Regardless of the course, I'm looking forward to our time together!
In addition to my academic course load, I am the adviser for the Environmental Club and our school's literary magazine, The Accent.
This year I'll be in room 703. Feel free to email me with questions and concerns.
Thanks!
