Welcome to Mrs. Steinmetz's Kindergarten class!  My name is Lauren Steinmetz and this is my 17th year of teaching.  I graduated from Millersville University in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education.  I started my teaching career teaching junior high learning support for one year.  I then switched to teaching elementary learning support.  I taught special education for four years before I switched to teaching Kindergarten.  I have taught Kindergarten for eleven years.  I have also taught first grade for one year.  I have my Master's degree from Wilkes University in Technology Education.

We are going to have so much fun this year exploring, learning and growing!  We will learn our letter names and letter sounds.  We will focus on learning our 60 Kindergarten sight words, called "Power Words".  By the end of Kindergarten, we will all be readers!  We will learn how to write words using our Kid Writing.  When writing, we will write the sounds we hear at the beginning, middle and end of words.  In math, we will focus on basic shapes, counting to 100, number sense, addition and subtraction, measurement and data analysis.  We will use math manipulatives everyday.  The children will love this hands-on exploration!  We will also use laptops, iPads and OSMOs during our lessons and activites.

I look forward to working with you and your child this year!

Always feel free to contact me with any questions!
