IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • COVID-19 Closure

UPDATED: APRIL 3, 2020: All BASD Schools are closed indefinitely due to COVID-19 pending further direction.  ALL school buildings and facilities are CLOSED – which in turn includes ALL playgrounds/tennis courts/basketball courts/etc.

ONLY those personnel who have been deemed essential (and have been notified as such) have access to our buildings and facilities at this time.  Our ENTIRE team – including our full team of teachers - is working remotely with access to their classroom voicemail, BASD emails, computers, etc.  Additionally, we apologize, but they do NOT have access to their own or student personal items left behind at BASD buildings or facilities.

This statement does not impact our Grab and Go Lunch Program.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding!

Did You Know? Video 1: Cyber/Charter/Public/Private

Did You Know? Video 2: Reasons and Data

    Standford CREDO Study 2019

In a first of its kind series for BASD, we would like to educate our learning community at large, about outside cyber and charter schools, their impact on our district, and our plans to bring our students home.

What is the difference between a cyber school and a charter school?  Are they truly “free”?  How many students from our district attend outside cyber/charter schools?  Why do families choose these options? How do the PA cyber and charter schools perform as compared to BASD?  Are these schools subject to the same rules and regulations that public schools must adhere to?  And more…

At this point, you may be asking yourself, “Why do I care?”  Quite simply, because as a taxpayer, you are funding more than $2.0M per year in BASD costs associated with these outside placements.  We’re guessing that we have your attention now!

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing short videos via FB, Twitter (via a link), and our website aimed at educating our district community on all of this and more.  We will also introduce you to Berks Online Learning – our own cyber school offering.  Finally, we will talk to you about the efforts underway to bring our students back to the Boyertown Learning Community – whether via our brick and mortar buildings or our own, much more cost-effective, cyber opportunity.  Stay tuned…we’re never too old to learn!!

This year is the 16th annual Unity Walk.  The walk will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020.  The event will run in conjunction with the Wellness Council of Boyertown’s Annual Wellness Fair.  The walk will begin at the Boyertown Area Senior High School Main Entrance. Unity Walkers are encouraged to organize a walking team.  Four teams will be selected to win a $100 donation towards their favorite charity.  Each walking team with 5 people or more will be entered in the drawing.  If you would like to create a walking team in advance, please contact the United Way office at (610) 367-8716.   On the day of the event, registration for walking teams will begin at 8:45 AM.

Participants are encouraged to stay for the Wellness Council’s Running of the Bears event and the Wellness Fair.  The Running of the Bears will begin following the walk and the Wellness Fair will be from 10AM-1PM at BASH.  Students who participate in the Unity Walk will get bonus points for walking in addition to their laps in the Running of the Bears Event.
